The Relational Self

Working with Individuals in the Imago Paradigm

WEEKLY FROM 1PM-4PM EASTERN

The relationship is of primary importance in working effectively one-on-one with people. The module helps the Facilitator apply the learning from Fundamentals to their facilitation of individuals in whatever setting. Protocols for conducting a first session and for subsequent sessions are demonstrated and practiced. Concepts of how the Missing Self shows up in relational dynamics leading to conflict and tools for working with this are explored and dialogues introduced to help clients reclaim their projections onto others.

Learning objectives:

Participants will...

1. Identify the missing selves: denied self; lost self; hidden self; disowned self; and presentational self (false self)

2. Explain how self-rejection is developed and how it serves to keep the status quo

3. Facilitate character structure modification

4. Facilitate the "Good-bye Process" in order to disconnect from previous partners

5. Make effective contracts with individual clients

6. Explain how the Imago Dialogue breaks symbiosis and leads to differentiation and empathy

Sophie is a faculty member and Senior Clinical Instructor at the Imago International Training institute offering professional trainings in Imago Relationship Therapy in Montreal, Canada, London, UK, and around the world. Sophie has worked in private practice for over 30 years, specializing in couples and individuals with relationship challenges and is a member of the Canadian Psychological Society. She is also an Imago Workshop Presenter giving workshops in French and English whenever possible with her husband, David. Her motto is “Have Imago, Will Travel”

Fundamentals of Imago Facilitation presents some basic concepts of relational competence, including presence, safety and connection. Participants learn and practice the elements of the Imago Dialogue process and how to apply these in various settings with others who are not familiar with this amazingly effective way of communicating. An understanding of basic human developmental needs and areas of functioning guides the Facilitator in their way of being. A clear model of current and desired functioning helps Facilitators conceptualize issues that clients may present with and to help them move towards new possibilities. Relational ethics and working with diversity are also addressed. Available on-line.

This course can be taken as stand alone learning experience, or as part of the larger Certification Course.
